Overview

As an Engineering Manager in the IP Development team, you will be responsible for leading and supporting a multi-disciplinary team across one or more platforms. Your focus will be on creating an environment where teams can deliver effectively, grow in their roles, and maintain a high standard of engineering quality and consistency.

 

Reporting to the Head of Product Delivery, you will play a key role in translating engineering standards and ways of working into day-to-day team practices. You will support delivery through strong team leadership, ensuring that engineers, designers, and other roles are aligned, supported, and set up for success.

 

You will be accountable for the wellbeing, performance, and development of your team, while also working closely with Scrum Masters to track, understand, and improve delivery and productivity metrics across teams. You will also support the adoption of modern development approaches, including the effective and responsible use of AI tools within the development lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and support a multi-disciplinary team across one or more platforms, ensuring effective collaboration, delivery, and alignment
  • Manage and develop team members, including performance, career growth, and progression, while fostering a positive and psychologically safe environment Support teams in delivering high-quality software aligned to agreed standards, practices, and timelines
  • Work with the Head of Product Delivery to embed engineering standards, governance, and consistent ways of working across teams
  • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Engineering leadership to ensure alignment on priorities and delivery outcomes
  • Partner with Scrum Masters to monitor and improve delivery and productivity metrics (e.g. velocity, cycle time, throughput), using insights to drive continuous improvement
  • Identify and address risks, blockers, and delivery challenges, enabling teams to resolve issues effectively
  • Encourage adoption of modern tools and approaches, including AI-assisted workflows, to improve efficiency, quality, and delivery outcomes
  • Support recruitment, onboarding, and scaling of the team as required
  • Contribute to building a high-performing, consistent, and scalable engineering function

Qualifications

  • Experience in an Engineering Manager or similar leadership role within a software development environment
  • Proven experience managing and developing multi-disciplinary teams
  • Strong understanding of software development practices and delivery in Agile environments
  • Experience supporting teams across multiple projects or platforms
  • Ability to balance people leadership with delivery oversight
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills, with a focus on career development and performance
  • Experience embedding standards, processes, and consistent ways of working across teams
  • Experience working with delivery and productivity metrics to improve team performance
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to identify and manage risks, dependencies, and delivery challenges
  • Comfortable working in environments with evolving priorities and ambiguity
  • Experience working closely with Product, Design, Engineering leadership, and Scrum Masters
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Experience using tools such as Jira, Confluence, and GitHub or similar platforms
  • Awareness of AI-assisted development tools and workflows, and the ability to support teams in adopting them effectively
